June full moon
The Strawberry Moon
2026: Monday, June 29 · Moon in Capricorn ♑︎
Where the name comes from
The name Strawberry Moon comes from the Algonquian-speaking peoples of the northeastern United States and the Great Lakes region, and it was later recorded and popularized by colonial-era publications like the Old Farmer's Almanac. It has nothing to do with the moon turning pink. June was simply the short, precious window when wild strawberries ripened and were ready to gather, so the full moon of that month became a seasonal marker for the harvest. Different nations kept their own names too, such as the Blooming Moon and the Hatching Moon, while Europeans knew this moon as the Rose Moon or Mead Moon. All of them point to the same thing: early summer, when the world is in full bloom and the first fruits arrive.
The energy of this moon
The Strawberry Moon carries the energy of ripeness and sweetness. It falls near the summer solstice, when light is at its fullest, so its themes are abundance, celebration, and the gentle art of savoring. This is a moon for noticing what has quietly come to fruition in your life: efforts that are finally paying off, relationships that have deepened, seeds you planted months ago that are now bearing fruit. It also asks something of you. Strawberries do not last long on the vine, and neither do sweet moments. The invitation is to slow down, receive what is here, and give thanks before the season turns.
A simple Strawberry Moon ritual
- Step outside or to a window where you can see the moon, or simply feel the night air. Take three slow breaths and let your shoulders drop, arriving fully in the moment.
- Eat something sweet, ideally a strawberry or any fruit you have on hand, and eat it slowly. With each bite, name one thing in your life that has ripened this year and quietly say thank you for it.
- Write down one thing you are ready to celebrate and one thing you want to keep tending through the summer. Leave the note somewhere the moonlight can reach it overnight, or read it aloud to the moon before bed.
Journal prompts
- What has quietly ripened in my life over the past six months, and have I truly let myself enjoy it?
- Where am I rushing something that still needs time on the vine, and what would patience look like there?
- What small, sweet moments have I been overlooking lately, and how can I savor them more fully this season?
